The Annual Animo Sprint Triathlon is back and this year is bigger than ever with more than 650+ participants joining the 2 day event. TRAP did a great job in organizing the event even though there are a lot of Tri-newbies who joined this year including me. My first triathlon, I joined the Sprint category (900m swim-30km bike-6.9km run) on Day 2 finishing with a total time of 2:18:34, not too bad for a first timer.
Event though it was my first triathlon, I didn’t felt nervous nor worried since its just a Sprint distance event and I’ve been training hard for the Half-Ironman distance since February. Training hard did paid off as I finished the event still feeling good and ready to do more distance. The swim part was a tough one, as more than 50 participants at a time duke it out on a narrow lane in the pool. Some experienced triathletes will tell you to stay behind the pack in the swim start but what I did was the exact opposite, fighting it in the front and of course getting hit by a couple of times by fellow age groupers. The bike leg wasn’t too good for me as I missed my first loop in the ‘ocho-ocho’ course but managed to correct my mistake in the 2nd loop by doing 2 rounds on the missed turn I did during the 1st loop. The run part was OK and managed to overtake almost all participants doing the run leg of the event.
Congratz to Kevin Dumol for bagging the 1st place in the 16-19 Age Group! Will definitely join next year again! Up next on my Tri-list: Tri-United @ Matabungkay on July 17
